Program objectives

Provide teacher/trainers to lead students through the 26 week program, developing the student’s skills in goal setting, discipline and personal responsibilities.

Through mastering increasingly difficult running goals, develop a ‘can do’ attitude that students will carry over into school work and life.

Introduce students to a physically and mentally healthy activity that would lead to a healthier and more productive lifestyle.

Who do we serve?

Although ‘at risk’ students are the program’s target group, we encourage all students regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic status to participate and enjoy the benefits and satisfaction of completing the program.

County and City Secondary school systems students over the age of 15 on race day are our primary focus. Younger students 12 to 14 years of age accepted on a case by case basis, and may be limited to participating in the half marathon and not the full. This program is offered at no cost to the student.

We will also welcome youth who are being mentored through social organizations or probation programs.

Teens Run Modesto is a ShadowChase Running Club sponsored program based on the highly successful Stu- dents Run LA program in Los Angeles. www.srla.org.The SRLA program has trained over 34,000 students to run the Los Angeles Marathon. Of those students completing the program, 90% graduate from High School and over 70% go on to post secondary schools. Over 80% of these students are minorities, and many will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and go on to college. We believe we can repeat these success stories in Modesto with your and the community’s help. If you would like to help us make a positive intervention in the lives of the Modesto area youth contact us at www.teensrunmodesto.org or through the ShadowChase Running Club at www.shadowchase.org
