Modesto Marathon Winner in 2011 and ultrarunner, Jon Olsen, was named the Ted Corbitt Memorial Ultra Runner of the Year by USA Track & Field. This recognizes his performances throughout 2013 including the gold medal at the IAU 24-hour World Championships in The Netherlands, amassing 167.568 miles in 24 hours and his absolute 100-mile American record of 11 hours, 59 minutes, 28 seconds. Olsen is a math teacher at Prescott Junior High School right here in Modesto. Last Friday, January 11th , he spoke at the Modesto Sportsman of Stanislaus club and eloquently conveyed the highs, lows and mental gymnastics that ultra runners go through to achieve incredible performances.
A ShadowChase Event
The Modesto Marathon was founded by the ShadowChase Running Club to serve the local community by promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Proceeds benefit Teens Run Modesto. This program encourages goal-setting, character development and improved physical fitness through training for and completing the Modesto Marathon.
