It is with a heavy heart that I tell you the following news in regards to the Modesto Marathon.
The race registration company that we originally were using for our marathon — Race Partner — failed to pay us for entries that were made on their platform for the months of November & December.
There have been several attempts to collect on the owed funds to no avail.
The company is currently under an FBI investigation. We have filed a police report and have been added to the FBI investigation but frankly don’t expect to be able to recoup the missing funds. A number of other companies have also reported losing some or all of their race registration funds, some quite substantial.
We estimate our losses to be in excess of $60,000.
As a nonprofit event, with all of the proceeds going to our Teens Run Modesto (TRM) program, we are extremely saddened by these turn of events. The funds will greatly be missed by our growing program. TRM uses the funds from the marathon to operate its six month program of training area youth to run our half & full marathons. For the past four years, as a TRM mentor at Downey High School, I have seen firsthand how this program has positively affected and touched these youth with goal setting, public socialization, character development and improved physical health.
We were forced to switch registration companies mid-year when we discovered the funding issue, and that is why there might have been a few registration errors that we handled as they were brought to our attention at the Expo and on Race Day. We greatly appreciate the patience of those affected.
We’re continuing our hard work to put on the best experience possible for our participants, and are excitedly looking forward to an awesome 10-year anniversary event in 2019!
